VHS was the the standard video tape format for over two decades. Most people would call this a "normal" video tape. Like all tape, it will deteriorate over time. MiniDV became a widely used format around 2000. Today most new video cameras use this format. It is only about 3 inches across and it will usually have miniDV written somewhere on the tape.
